The Mercury newspaper in KwaZulu-Natal launched yesterday (Monday August 16, 2010) a media freedom initiative - Urgent SOS to all citizens – asking readers to add their voices to the campaign. By 21:25 last night they received more than 722 emails, many of them with the names of more than one person who have come out in support of the campaign. Faxes have also started pouring in, which they don't have time to count.
